WordPress Website Development: Unique Rebels Union

Take a look at a custom WordPress wedding supplier directory website I developed for the Unique Rebels Union.

Unique Rebels Union is an award-winning online wedding directory, blog and magazine that focuses on unique, bespoke and innovative weddings, events & creative suppliers.

I teamed up with Cat Byrne, the designer behind Gatto, to create a new WordPress website for Unique Rebels Union as a part of a rebrand, including a new name and website domain (formerly Mr and Mrs Unique). Cat created the designs in Adobe XD and I translated them into a fully-functioning WordPress theme using the Genesis Framework.

Let’s take a closer look at some of my favourite features of the Unique Rebels Union website:

Fully bespoke directory

The main focus of the Unique Rebels Union website is a curated directory of suppliers for weddings and celebrations. The client wanted an easy way for users to find their perfect supplier based on their location and style.

To achieve this I utilised the custom post type and custom taxonomy features in WordPress to create a directory with search and filter functionality. You can search for suppliers by category, location and style, or by entering keywords into the search box provided.

Customisable listing pages

Each supplier in the directory has their own listing page featuring all of the important information you would want to know for your wedding or event. This includes a slideshow and an image gallery showcasing their services, links to enquire, visit their website, or share with a friend, address and other contact information, testimonials and special offers.

I made it so that the listings are easy for the client to edit via the WordPress admin so she doesn’t have to touch a single line of code!

Masonry blog layout with category filters

The Unique Rebels Union website also features a blog full of wedding inspiration. The blog features a masonry style layout with the post title, category and date being revealed on hover. I also added a dropdown so that users can filter blog posts by category.

Here are some kind words from Cat, the designer of the Something Vintage website…

“Working with Holly has been amazing for me and my business. There is nothing she doesn’t know about WordPress and she saves me hours working on my clients WordPress migrations, theme updates and general tweaks. Everything she does is done quickly and to an amazing standard. If you need the help of a developer, you need Holly!”
