In Love & Adventure is an adventure wedding and elopement photography business, serving couples looking to escape traditions in Colorado, Utah and beyond.
In Love & Adventure is owned by Kelly, an insanely talented photographer who helps couples plan their dream elopements out in the wilderness. In her own words, she’s “basically a bear that can use a camera” who is passionate about the outdoors and exploration.
When Cat from Gatto contacted me about working together on this project, I was so excited because I knew she would come up with some incredible ways to showcase Kelly’s photography and lay out all of the important information that a website for someone in the wedding industry needs to include.
The previous In Love & Adventure website was built on WordPress using a pre-made theme. As search engine optimisation and website speed were a huge priority for Kelly, it made complete sense to keep the website on WordPress but create something completely bespoke to help Kelly stand out from the crowd.
Let’s take a closer look at some of my favourite features and functionality of the In Love & Adventure website:
Full-screen headers and sticky navigation
When you’re creating a website for a photographer, you want their imagery to be the very first thing you see when you land on the page.
Cat designed these beautiful full-screen headers where Kelly could showcase her stunning photography and make a real impression on website visitors.
The main navigation menu sits on top of the image on the left-hand side of the screen, and as you scroll past this section, a horizontal version of the navigation comes into view and seamlessly sticks to the top of the screen.

I love sticky navigations and headers as they make it quick and easy for website visitors to access key pages and move around the website.
Interactive frequently asked questions sections
Frequently asked questions (FAQ) sections on websites are valuable resources. They are particularly useful to have on websites for businesses in the wedding industry because couples always have lots of questions they need answering!
But FAQ sections don’t need to be boring! They don’t just need to be a list of questions and answers.
Cat designed this beautiful FAQ section that appears on the home page of the In Love & Adventure website. When you click on a question, the answer is revealed on the right-hand side of the screen, along with a link to a relevant page so the user can find out more.

On mobile, the format changes to a simple accordion style dropdown list:

Other pages on the website also feature FAQ sections, but for these, we used an alternative design and setup to add some variety to the pages.

Gear Garage – a filterable form
A feature that we added to the website after its initial launch was the Gear Garage.
The Gear Garage is a feature exclusively for couples who have already booked their elopement with Kelly. It is a form that allows the couple to select which gear they would like Kelly to bring along to their engagement. This includes things like lighting, clothing for cold weather, essentials for dogs, waters sports equipment and more. It’s a bit like a shop but everything is free!
Unlike a typical form, the Gear Garage features an image and a brief description of each item, so couples know exactly what they’re choosing. They can select multiple items, and there are even filters at the top of the form to help the users to find exactly what they’re looking for.

Once they have selected their items, they can fill in their name, date of elopement, and add a message to Kelly. When the form is submitted, it will land in Kelly’s inbox and she will have a list of everything she needs to pack for the upcoming elopement.
This is such a clever idea from Kelly and it was a lot of fun to bring to life!
Here are some kind words from Cat about what it’s like to collaborate with me…
“Collaborating with Holly is a true dream. Not only does she have complete technical genius in WordPress, she doesn’t shy away from bold and unique design ideas that are tricky to bring to life. Holly does everything to keep me creatively in control and makes me feel like anything is possible for me and my clients! I couldn’t create the websites I do without Holly!”
