WordPress Website Development: Snug Designs

Let me take you behind the scenes of a bespoke WordPress website I developed for the WordPress theme store I co-own; Snug Designs.

This WordPress website development case study is a little bit different from my usual posts. Instead of taking you behind the scenes of a website I developed for a client, I’m going to show you a website that I developed for a business of my own; Snug Designs.

Snug Designs is a WordPress theme store that I co-own with my friend and long-time collaborator, Cat from Gatto. We both wanted to start a website template store and so it made complete sense to team up, and bring our design and development expertise together.

At Snug Designs we create easy-to-use, branded and bold WordPress themes for creative business owners. The themes are all built with the block editor and full site editing in WordPress, allowing our customers to create highly-optimised, unique websites without touching a single line of code.

The Snug Designs website was designed by Cat and developed by me (of course!). It’s built on WordPress and the ecommerce portion of the website is powered by WooCommerce.

Let’s take a closer look at some of my favourite features and functionality of the Snug Designs website:

Digital product store powered by WooCommerce

The shop portion of the Snug Designs website is powered by WooCommerce; the most popular ecommerce plugin for WordPress websites.

We chose WooCommerce as it makes it easy to sell downloadable digital products, like WordPress themes. When a customer purchases a theme they instantly get access to the theme files so they are able to start building their new WordPress website straight away.

I fully customised the WooCommerce pages so that they seamlessly match the rest of our website and branding. This includes the main shop page, individual product pages, cart page and checkout page.

Custom product sales pages

Speaking of WooCommerce pages, we went to town customising our product pages!

Our product pages not only needed to look on-brand and unique, they also needed to convert. We wanted to create product pages full of information to help our customers to choose the right theme for their business. We also needed to build trust with our potential customers before they made an investment in one of our themes.

One of the first things we did was remove the default product image and replace it with this interactive preview of the theme. When you hover over the image, it automatically scrolls, allowing you to quickly see the theme in all its glory!

For each theme we have three live demo websites, each showcasing the different ways in which the theme can be customised. We created a dropdown list that allows customers to select which demo website they would like to preview. This will then open the demo website in a new tab.

As you scroll down the product page, you’ll find lots of helpful information about the themes and how they work, including testimonials and a frequently asked questions section.

We also added a customer showcase slider to each product page, showing how our customers have customised that particular theme to work for their business with their own branding.

Filterable customer showcase

As I mentioned before, we love to showcase how our customers have used our themes to create their own, unique WordPress websites.

As well as having the customer showcases on the individual product pages, we also have a central customer showcase page where you can see how all our different themes have been used by different business owners.

This is a great way to show our potential customers how customisable our themes are, how they can work for different industries, and how the same theme can look completely different from one business to another.

Users can filter the customer showcases by theme and by industry using the dropdown lists. The filters are powered by Ajax, meaning the results update on the page without the whole page refreshing.

Interactive lead generation quiz

Another feature I love on the Snug Designs website is our Snug Story Quiz. This is an interactive quiz that helps our customers to discover their business personality.

Once you have answered the questions in the quiz, you will be prompted to enter your email address, and then you’ll be taken to the relevant results page.

Each results page tells users what their business personality is, and recommends specific themes in our store based on their business personality.

The quiz is connected to our email marketing platform, Flodesk. Leads are automatically added to a sales funnel and will receive a discount code for 15% off our themes.
